Abby, a black and white rat, was surrendered to Wee Companions Small Animal Rescue about a month ago. Abby was an outgoing young girl, only about 8 weeks old, that actively built nests with endless amounts of energy. Even though Abby was so young, volunteers were a bit concerned that she might be pregnant. After an ultrasound with Dr. Deirdre Brandes, it was confirmed that Abby was indeed pregnant.
As the pregnancy progressed, through the birth, and over the past couple of weeks, the staff at Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital has been able to see the growth of the babies and witness the rapid changes of baby rats. Our hospital staff and volunteers with Wee Companions are proud to announce that the babies turn 2 weeks old on Monday, March 30th. It is likely that the babies’ eyes will open within the next day or two and our staff is anxiously anticipating their new phase of life.
These babies will be adoptable through Wee Companions in about three weeks. If you are interested in adopting these babies or other rats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs or chinchillas, visit www.WeeCompanions.com for more information.
