Hi Cindi, I'm not a veterinarian myself but after consulting with our doctors is sounds like you're most likely out of the woods. It sounds like your quick reaction time helped save your lab from an even worse possible reaction. We've already have a few cases this year, and all our bite victims have had happy endings. Still, it's best to follow up with your veterinarian and proceed with their recommended rechecks. They'll want to make sure that the antibiotics are effective and that your lab eventually resumes to her happy life. One, free of future rattler's, that is!

My yellow lab was bitten by a large rattler on Sat. 8-16-08, she was bitten on the norse and her face swelled while I was trying to get to the car she had to walk 1/2 mile by the time I got to the car she was very slow and drooling and bleeding a lot. I called the vet by the time I got there driving with flashing lights and honking my horn she was gagging, the vet took and gave her steroids,IVLR, clindamycin and pain meds with NSAID. Two days later she came home. Thank God! Her face is still swollen with a necrotic area on her nose. She will cont. antibiotics and pain meds. Do you know if she will have any residule problems like vision or can she still have issues with her clotting or sytemic issues? Thanks, Cindi
