Hi Kathy, the best thing would be to give us a call at 858-759-8797. In general, it's very difficult for us to help in situations like yours, but we may know of others who can.

Dear Doctors at Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital,

Would you consider doing a surgery on a 6.5 yr. old Basenji dog that got hit by a car? His x-rays show a broken lower jaw and a broken shoulder blade. Otherwise he has survived the last 36 hours. We don't have much money to pay for a surgery but so far can collect $400 to $500, and are still trying to raise money to save his life. I thought from the website that you might be the kind of doctors that could help. If not, can you think of anyone you can refer us to for immediate assistance? Thank you so much.

Hi Carol, thanks for your comment, and I'm sorry to hear about the arthritis on Boo Boo. But to answer your question, yes, we have performed stem cell harvest and injection procedures for some patients. One of our doctors, Dr. Sophie Steele is trained in the procedure. The first step, if you're interested, is to call us at 858-759-8797 and make an appointment to see her. I hope this helps! ~Dave Oei, General Manager

Hi, I have a 8 year old English Mastiff. Boo Boo, my heart dog. He has had arthritis in both elbows for about 2 years and the remedyl is not helping much anymore. I take him to a naturapathic veterinarian for accupuncture herbs etc. She has recommended I find someone that can do the stem cell harvest and injections. Do you probide that procedure in yor hospital? What are your thoughts on that. Thank You Carol Markov

Awesome tips, and thanks for providing a local clinic for the dog/rattlesnake issue since they are easily encountered on trails and parks in the area.

As a dog trainer I always like to add one important step for more reasons than just rattlesnakes. Recall. Come to me when called no matter what.

Practice this game with other odd moving things so when you come upon a snake with your dog it is no different.

Come to you instead of choosing the odd looking moving thing!

Dear Dr. Steele,
Vader wanted to say hello as a proud and very healthy , rambunctious stem cell beneficiary. I am so glad that you are expanding this great option for others.

Vader is still running around like crazy, even giving our puppy ( we are CCI puppy raisers now) a run for him money.

I hope you and your family are well. We'd still love to meet up at the tide pools some weekend!

Best,
Christine Gallup & Vader

Hi Cindi, I'm not a veterinarian myself but after consulting with our doctors is sounds like you're most likely out of the woods. It sounds like your quick reaction time helped save your lab from an even worse possible reaction. We've already have a few cases this year, and all our bite victims have had happy endings. Still, it's best to follow up with your veterinarian and proceed with their recommended rechecks. They'll want to make sure that the antibiotics are effective and that your lab eventually resumes to her happy life. One, free of future rattler's, that is!
